Wal-mart has announced that they are eliminating the fabric department
from 2800 stores (including the one near me!!!). I know a lot of
people don't agree with Wal-mart's policies but for those of us living
on the edge of oblivion it's our only choice. Now if I need last
minute sewing notions or cheap $1/yard fabric for covering log books
I'll have to drive an hour. If Wal-mart goes out of the fabric
business that leaves JoAnn's with a near monopoly and if you ask me
they're far worse. Without competition JoAnn's already high prices
will shoot up. I know this isn't directly related to letterboxing but
I know there are a lot of crafty people here who shop at Walmart for
supplies. If you are as distressed about this developement as I am let
them know that you don't want them to close their fabric departmants

Oh man. How do you find out which stores are closing their fabric
departments? Are they going to have a big sale to get rid of it or are they
sending it on to other stores? I'll have to stock up if they sell it off. I
don't really care to shop at Walmart (of course I don't really like to shop
period) but they do have the best fabric prices around.

The craft stores have fabric, though you can't get it by the yard. I
have seen them at both AC Moore and Micheal's

I don't knowif they announed it to the public, this came from an
employee at my local Walmart. At theat store they will ship it to
other stores. 2800 will loose their fabric department in the next year
and probably more then next until they're all phased out.

Every Walmart store manager has 'some' control over the products that
are sold in their store. For example many Walmarts do not carry guns
and ammunition, while other stores have an entire firearm area in
their sporting goods section. I would suggest that interested parties
contact the store near them and make their wishes known to the local
manager.

Actually, this comes from corporate. I discussed it with the manager
at my local Walmart.

The subject line also confused me for a minute. However, definition 2
in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines sewer as "One who
sews", so the word is correct.
